Work begins on a new book sculpture
As promised on Facebook I am posting the development of some new work which will either be called, 'Net' or 'Veil', I haven't quite decided yet.
This folded book has been sitting on the side for about 6 months awaiting the next step in it's journey. I'm not a big fan of the naked folded book as I've seen it so many times over the years, in fact there are some that are calling this structure Origami Books which I do support. I am a lot more satisfied if I can incorporate an element of stitch in my sculptures. In 2012 I only managed to produce one or two sculptures as my energies have been pushed towards my jewellery. Usually inspiration for my jewellery collections comes from the processes and structures that occur in the sculptural books.
This new sculpture will be worked over using smocking and then move into a netting form. The hardest part of stitiching into paper is preventing it from tearing so I have to work really slowly and ensure that the holes are big enough to allow the thickness of the thread to glide through and not snag up.
Next post you should see further development and perhaps I will talk about the concept behind the piece.

Pink Rainbow
This morning I was up particularly early. I've taken the feastive opportunity to relaxm, take it easy and enjoy the break. Whilst working on my books I happened to glance out of the window, whilst thinking or daydreaming.
I leapt up out of my chair and snapped this picture. I hold my hands up, I have adjusted it on Photoshop (perhaps a touch too much) as my little camera could not cope with the shock, so the colour contrast wasn't that great. But I will allow you to see the original photo which is not as dramatic as what I saw, hence my need to adjust the photo.
