Windmills of our Mind

There's something about windmills that seems to take us back to childhood. When life was simpler and we felt the freedom to be ourselves. I recently provided a windmill workshop for my 50+ group at the Autumn Centre. We all have such a good time as ever and they all enjoyed their final product.

The Rainbow Week

I've been helping out at 'Our Lady's of Walsingham' Primary School. It was their Art Week last week. I taught Class 5 and 6 how to make 'Kusadama' Flowers. They all mastered this origami structure quite well. Each class had a designated colour to work with. However, once the headmaster had seen how beautiful the Kusudama structure was he wanted them to be multi-coloured.

In the class the children produced the individual flowers, I constructed the flower balls at home, they took four hours to assemble. I am so proud of the work the children produced. And even more impressed by the amount of children who went home and badgered their parents for coloured paper so they could make one at home.

Felt Toy

There was a recent swap on 'Absolutely Everyhing Swap Central' an online yahoo group I am a member of. It was to create a felt toy. I have never created a toy from scratch so I was a bit nervous about the proposition. On the other hand I always like to try something new so I decided not to sign up for the swap but make something anyway. I have to say I am quite pleased with the result. I wish I had been more brave now and signed up for the swap.

Paper Jewellery

I'm really excited, I have been recently selected as a Designer/ Maker for the Design Factory. This is the third time I have applied, the first two times I was accepted as a Associate Member. The adage must be true 'Third time Lucky!!' I have been developing a range of jewellery following on from my degree show collection. The first time it was showed was at 'Lustre' a contemporary craft fair at Lakeside, Nottingham where I was selected to be a 'Young Meteor'.

I have my own portfolio on their website. section on their website which gives a little more information about my work. Unfortunately my website is not working yet. Maybe this will spur me on.

Creating Fan Cards at the Autumn Centre

Last week, we created Fan Cards at the Autumn Centre. This is a group of lovely ladies majority over 50 years of age all enjoying keeping their minds alert and their fingers active.

The enthusiasm and creativity in this group runs very high, they enjoy the chatter and the making. They all support each other to produce an end product before they have their lunch and a game of bingo.

We are now looking for ideas for things to produce for the annual Summer Open Day where they hope to fill a stall with lovely handcrafted items.

Easter Baskets

I was asked by the local Day Centre where I provide craft sessions to make some centre pieces for their Easter Meal. It should have been flowers made by the group but they were not returned in time. So I whipped up some origami boxes and machined some handles and Voila!
